A connection 48 years in the making

It never ceases to amaze me—tears, cheers, and goosebumps. Whether I’m watching a heartfelt reunion on YouTube or navigating a successful search of my own, the emotions remain powerful. After 48 years and just 4 days of research, a birthmother will go to bed tonight knowing where her daughters sleep and that they are safe.

The information I started with was minimal—only first names and approximate birthdates. I attribute my success to messages sent by a true angel, guiding me through the search. Each step is approached with care, mindful not to raise the hopes of a mother who has endured her heart being broken time and again over the past 48 years. Then comes that incredible moment of realization—you’ve solved the case. By that point, having learned so much about the family’s lives over the decades, it feels as though you know them personally.

You hope they share in your excitement about the upcoming connection, but then thoughts turn to the adoptive parents—those who opened their hearts and homes to these children. They are the true angels in this story.
